“Wingshooting A perfect day…”
An ideal day could start at first light shooting Egyptian and Spurwing Geese from pit-blinds, over decoys in furrowed winter-wheat fields or, you can start the morning flighting Ducks as they move along the dam irrigation system.
After a couple of hours, we’ll return to the Lodge 09.30 – 10.00 am. After a hearty al-fresco breakfast, you’ll have a choice to shoot Rock Pigeons over sunflowers from a hide using a magnet or, sometimes its possible to shoot flighting Rock Doves. These can be very challenging as they fly from the sunflower fields back to the distant mountains – in Partridge-like coveys – from a foot off the ground to 200 feet up.
As an alternative, you may shoot Orange River Francolin, Grey & Red Wing Partridge and Quail over a pair of German Short Haired Pointers. (GSP’s).
During your shooting holiday it’s sometimes possible to take an overnight trip to the Orange River where we have concessions to shoot Egyptian & Spurwing Geese, however this is dependent on the migratory bird numbers at the time.
